Usually we don’t see deals on the biggest games of the fall until a little bit after Black Friday, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any exceptions. And one major one has got to be Cyberpunk 2077, arguably the biggest release of 2020 this side of Call of Duty and not even out for two more weeks. But if you head over to Amazon right now, you can snag it for $10. Considering CD Projekt Red is not yet embracing the idea of a $70 game, this means you can get what by paying only $49.94. I would love to know how they go about assigning those cents.
Note that these are both for previous-generation consoles. But don’t worry about it if you’ve got an Xbox Series X or PS5: the upgrade to the new generation is free for owners of the Xbox One or PS4 versions. It’s been a little while since we heard about timing on what the developer promises will be a substantial upgrade for new consoles, however. I don’t know how long this will be active for, so move fast if you want it.
Standard warning: a pre-order is always going to be an order for a product for which nobody can yet vouch for the quality. While this game comes from an established developer and we’ve already seen a ton of it, there’s just no way to know exactly what it’s going to be like when the rubber hits the road. So you could call this is a deal, or you could just call it the bonus you get for jumping into a giant thing like this first.
Cyberpunk 2077 has been in the public eye for so long that it’s hard to imagine it’s actually coming out, but it’s still exciting. The setting is clearly different, but it’s a sort of a follow-up to the groundbreaking The Witcher 3, in that it’s CD Projekt Red’s next attempt to make an RPG on an absolutely massive scale, with ambition that seems to dwarf the already titanic Witcher 3. I am nervous about it, frankly, because it just seems so sprawling. But CD Projekt Red stuck the landing with its last game, and some extensive previews suggest its on the verge of doing the same with this one.
